Sarah Khan

Sarah has worked in the NHS for more than twenty years, leading major programmes focused on improving mental health, learning disability and community services, as well as wider system transformation. She is currently Director of Strategic Development at North East London NHS Foundation Trust.
Prior to this, she served as Chief of Staff to the Chief Nursing Officer for England at NHS England, where she established and led the national CNO Office during a period that included the Covid-19 pandemic, major workforce and national policy challenges, and significant national service transformation. She has also held senior leadership roles across NHS England, NHS Improvement and London mental health and community trusts.
Throughout her career, Sarah has specialised in bringing partners together across sectors and systems to deliver significant change and improvement. She has led work on national mental health policy, organisational strategy, governance and service transformation, with a particular interest in collaboration, coproduction and reducing health inequalities. She is known for her inclusive leadership style and for building strong relationships across complex organisations and systems.
Alongside her roles at NELFT and Care City, Sarah is currently training to qualify as an executive coach. She lives in East London with her family and is an enthusiastic distance runner and open water swimmer.
